Australian Native Earthworm Eggs

Category

Naturally building Humus or Soil Organic Carbon (SOC)

This a combination of 2 types of specially selected Australian Native Earthworms that have been proven as functional Humus builders within a wide diversity of soil types and climatic regions. These worms can drill through the heaviest compacted clays and are just at home in light sandy soils. They consume fungal spores and fungal networks, digesting pathogenic fungi yet simultaneously proliferating beneficial soil and plant fungi. Given sufficient food sources, they will convert them into functional high carbon soil, AKA Humus.

Directions for Use

This pack of Australian Native Earthworm Eggs comes pre-mixed with their own high fungal castings. One pack provides coverage for up to 5 hectares (spread at the rate of 4kg per hectare). They are suitable for spreading with conventional fertiliser spreading equipment, it is recommended to spread them when the ground has been recently seeded with a new crop or a recently established crop, or a recently mulched or ploughed in crop. The eggs will need an available food source to promote hatching, generally this is from the exudates of living plants or the decomposition of decaying plants. They can be blended with other dry fertilisers or bulking agents and it is encouraged to spread late in the day or in overcast conditions, prior to rain or heavy dew.

The eggs will take up to several months to hatch and reach full size after 6-12 months.

Storage

Store the native earthworm egg rich bedding material in a cool shady location, out of direct sunlight. They can be stored for 6-8 weeks, but must be used within 3 months of arrival.

Results

Following the spreading of the eggs, in 6-9 months there will be small piles of worm castings appearing on the surface of the soil, similar to ant mounds but coarser in composition. Digging through with a shovel will show earthworm tunnels throughout the soil profile. These observations will be confirmation that the native earthworm eggs have hatched and have started the process of naturally fertilising.
